The Sunshine Coast Scorchers Premier Cricket one day campaign gets underway Saturday against University.
“I think we’ve got a pretty good mixture of guys in our squad, in ones in particular I guess, which is exciting,” said Scorchers captain Nick Selman.
“In particular are going to shape up pretty well in the two day campaign.
“So I think we should be a pretty strong side.
“And one dayers as well. I think we’ve got a good mix and hopefully we can build some momentum in these one dayers coming up into our two day campaign as well.”
“I think we’re going to have a pretty good bowling attack.
“Young Benny Gordon, obviously Nick Fletcher coming up from Victoria.
“And Tom Engelbrecht bowling his like spin.
“So I think we’re going to be pretty good in that in the bowling department.”
Scorchers Director of Cricket Andrew Pearce says there are some exciting times ahead for the Scorchers mens program.
“I think there are a lot of good things to come out of that T20 campaign,” Pearce said.
“When you got to go, all like Nicky Selmann hitting the ball like he does, and then a couple of really young quicks coming through.”
The Scorchers women will play out of Elizabeth Daniels Park after playing at Landsborough in recent seasons.
“With the growth of our club over 25 to 30 years our women’s program continues to grow and get stronger,” Pearce continued.
“Trying to find a base for them, it’s been been challenging.
“We sublease here off Maroochydore. it’s their club side.
“But what we have done is move our women to play out of here on a Sunday.
“So both our men first and second grade will share on Saturday, naturally, and our women will play back out of here on Sundays with our youth squads using Glasshouse.
“So 17s Tavs and 19s so used Glasshouse as their home base.”
