Palmwoods have started their first division campaign with one win from two games on Saturday.
They defeated Maroochydore Cygnets in their opening game.
Palmwoods captain Clayton Taylor said, “[We] won the toss, batted, [and] put on a decent score,” Palmwoods captain Clayton Taylor said.
“Thought Maroochydore bowled alright. Maroochhydore’s fielding probably let him down just a wee bit. And then we were good enough to defend it. So that was good and nice to get that first win on the board.”
In their second game they lost to Tewantin Noosa.
“At one stage we had them 5 for 50, so we’re looking pretty good,” Taylor said.
“They put in a few good partnerships too, in the middle. You’ve just got to drop just half a fraction against a team like that and they’ll hurt you.
“So they end up getting 140, which was a good score.
“We lost a few early ones, so that wasn’t good. And we fought all the way to the end, but fell about 30 short.”
This seasons sees them step into Coast cricket’s top division after winning the Division 2 premiership three years in a row.
Tewantin Noosa captain Michael Eckhard was complimentary of Palmwoods stepping up.
He said, “They play with heart and that’s what it’s all about. So they gave a good fight. They had us 5 for 55 and the boys are young, they’re going to learn a lot playing obviously in the higher level. And I think it’s actually nice to see people just want to play better standard of cricket so respect to them in that case.
