Interview with independent candidate for Maroochydore Mark Wadeson

The voting period for the Queensland state election is under way. There are many independent candidates and those representing minor parties will be looking to hold balance of power and making the major parties listen to what they have to say.

Mark Wadesone is one of the independents. He is running for the seat of Maroochydore, currently held by the Liberal National Party’s Fiona Simpson.

We caught up with him and recorded this interview on Monday.

Patrick Gillett: Yeah. How’s your campaign been so far?

Mark Wadeson: It’s been quiet, but mine is mostly over the internet, so I’m not wasting money on signs and posters and so forth. A lot of candidates, every election will go up and waste twenty grand on signs, posters and everything. I’ve managed not to waste that in past three elections. So this will be my most expensive election. We’re going to spend $400.

PG: How many elections have you been in before?

MW: It’s the fourth.

PG: I suppose even you how to vote cards seem fairly basic.

MW: They’re A5, printed a couple of cents. You don’t need the cardboard ones, that cost a buck a piece. So when you know roughly what’s going to happen in the election and where it’s going, wasting your money is stupid. But getting set up for when there’s got to be a change in an election, that’s the smart thing to do.

So put yourself in a position when you’re ready to go for the election, when you know there’s going to be a change. So we’re coming close to that, whether it’s this one or the next one. But I’m not going to go out and waste 20 grand on an election. Well, you’ve just seen the Natolies get caught from taking money from property developers. They could both lose their seats.

PG: What are some of the ideas you want to take into this election?

MW: People’s votes are being ignored. We voted no. It’s been ignored. It’s still trying to throw a treaty down our throat. They’re still trying to throw Welcome to country down. That’s just sitting in the election to get where our names were going to go on the ballot paper we had to listen to. Welcome to Country. We voted no. It’s time it’s gone.

There are so many better ways than splitting the country on race that we can help Aboriginals out. We can give them a better tax free threshold to encourage them. We can let them own their own land instead of companies owning the land and running them like a communist state. So none of them ever independently get up. These are just some of the tiny things on those matters.

Then I’m running against the anti anti-male agenda. I’m running against the leftist basically, because if we keep allowing the leftists to keep their motto, “you’ll be poor and happy”, we’re all screwed. We cannot afford a country where everyone has to have a handout from government, otherwise we might as well become China, become a communist country.

We have to be allowed to individually get up and the systems have to be in place for that and they’re not there. They’ve been taken away to collectively force masses of millions of people to need handouts rather than “here’s a better way, earn some more money be able to afford what you want on your own.

PG: You brought up some of the stuff relating to the Natolli’s. How would you address that? Regardless of who whoever it is.

MW: If you’re taking money from the property developers, you deserve to lose your seat, simple as that. At the moment, all I know is that the Natolli’s have been referred, so whether it’s true or not is still yet to be determined. I ran in Division Four against Joe. So it’s really annoying to have lost when he was on the take from property developers, uf that’s true. I know John Connolly put in a complaint. I know a few others have. I didn’t pick that one up unfortunately.
